Asian ethylene prices stay stable-to-soft last fortnight

The prices of ethylene remained stable-to-soft in Asia in the last fortnight ending May 31, 2014 compared to the previous fortnight ending May 15, due to sluggish demand in the region.
 
In S E Asia, average price of ethylene decreased marginally to US$ 1460/ton in the last fortnight, vis-à-vis the average price of $1465/ton in the previous fortnight. On June 5, 2014, prices were assessed at $1450/ton.
 
In F E Asia, average price of ethylene stayed stable at $1380/ton in the last fortnight.
 
In Japan, the average price of ethylene in May 2014 was $1375/ton, up 24.77 percent over the average price of $1100/ton in the same month last year.
 
However, in the US market, the average price of ethylene declined marginally by 1.82 percent to 54 cents/pound in the last fortnight, compared to the average price of 55 cents/pound in the previous fortnight.
 
Meanwhile, in Europe, the average price of ethylene remained stable at $1210/ton in the last fortnight due to steady buying sentiments. 
 
In the European domestic market, selling offers for ethylene were assessed in the range of €880/ton to €885/ton in the first half of the last fortnight, which increased in the second half of the last fortnight to €910/ton. On June 4, 2014, prices were quoted at €940/ton.
