Ethylene output to reach 31,611 thousand tons by 2020

A new report – ‘Global Polyester Value Chain Market Analysis & Forecast 2014-2020’ published by Fibre2fashion reveals that the estimated global production of ethylene will reach 31,611 thousand tons by 2020, from current level of 25,896 thousand tons in 2013.
 
The global production of ethylene has registered CAGR of 3.01 percent between 2004 and 2013, the study mentions. 
 
Saudi Arabia is the largest producer as well as consumer of ethylene in the world followed by China, United States, Taiwan, Korea, Canada and India.  
 
Ethylene is mostly used in the production of MEG followed DEG/TEG and other resins. Of the overall global production of 25896.44 thousand tons in 2013, 68.86 percent was used as raw material to produce MEG, 7.36 percent to produce DEG/TEG, while production of other resins consumed the remaining 23.78 percent.
