Japan's naphtha imports fall in May 2014

The imports of naphtha, used as a raw material in the production of ethylene, by Japan fell by about 8 percent to 1.111 million tons in May 2014, compared to import of 1.201 million tons during the same month last year, according to the data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
 
However, May 2014 imports were 12.58 percent more than April 2014’s import of 987,344 tons, the data showed.
 
In terms of value, Japan’s naphtha imports cost US$ 1.053 billion in May 2014, compared to $1.108 billion in May 2013 and $933.463 million in April 2014.
 
The average import price of naphtha in May 2014 increased to $947.5/ton, compared to the average price of $945.4/ton in April 2014 and price of $921.9/ton in May 2013.
