Global benzene prices witness upward trend last week

In Korea, Benzene prices went up in the last week due to higher upstream energy prices and tight product availability in the region. Benzene trends followed suit in Japan, Europe and US also.

In the early days of last week, Korean Benzene prices were at US$ 1335/ton, higher by US$ 35/ton as compared to the same period of its previous week and during the week they were assessed in the range of US$ 1330-1375/ton FOB Korea.

In Japan, Benzene prices showed similar trend as Korea last week. Speculators assessed the spot prices of Benzene in the range of US$ 1335-1380/ton CFR Japan.

In India, Benzene prices showed similar trend as Korea and Japan. Benzene prices were spotted in the range of US$ 1340-1385/ton CFR India last week.

In Europe, Benzene prices surged up last week due to higher Benzene prices in US and Asia. Supporting the price rise was higher upstream energy prices and downstream product prices.

In the initial days last week, European benzene prices were at US$ 1370/ton, higher by US$ 40/ton as compared to the same period of its previous week. Prices were spotted in the range of US$ 1350-1445/ton FOB Rotterdam.

In US, Benzene prices showed similar trend as Asia and Europe last week. Prices were assessed in the range of 475-520 (cents/gallon) FOB US. Contract prices for the month of June were settled at US$ 4.48/gallon, lower by 9 (cents/gallon) as compared to that of May.
