Global benzene prices surge in fortnight ending June 30

In the fortnight ending June 30, Asian Benzene market improved and prices went up due to robust buying sentiments from the downstream buyers coupled with the firm energy value.
 
In the Europe market, prices moved up due to tight product availability, firm buying momentum and rise in energy values. In the U.S.A market, prices followed an upward trend due to firm demand from the downstream buyers.
 
In Korea, average prices were assessed at US$ 1385/ton in the last fortnight ending June 30, higher by 6.13% as compared to US$ 1305/ton in its previous fortnight ending June 15. Prices were assessed at US$ 1370/ton on 3rd July, 2014.
 
In India, average prices were spotted at US$ 1395/ton in the last fortnight, higher by 6.08% vis-à-vis US$ 1315/ton in its previous fortnight. Prices were assessed at US$ 1380/ton on 3rd July, 2014.
 
In Japan, average prices were at US$ 1390/ton in the fortnight under review, up by 5.70% compared to US$ 1315/ton in its previous fortnight. Prices were assessed at US$ 1375/ton on 3rd July, 2014.
 
In Europe, average prices were at US$ 1430/ton in the last fortnight, higher by 7.52% compared to US$ 1330/ton in its previous fortnight.
 
In US, average prices were at 510 cents/gallon, higher by 12.09% compared to 455 cents/gallon in the previous fortnight. Contract prices for the month of July were settled at US$ 5.28/gallon, higher by 80 cents/gallon as compared to that of June.
 
JX Nippon settled its Benzene Asian contract price for July at US$ 1430/ton CFR Asia, which was up by US$ 140/ton from June settlement levels.
