Asian benzene prices up from high energy trends last week

Benzene prices went up across all Asian markets last week, mainly from higher upstream energy prices.

In the early days of last week, Korean prices were at US$ 1350/ton, higher by US$ 30/ton as compared to the same period of its previous week.

During last week, prices were assessed in the range of US$ 1345-1360/ton FOB Korea as compared to US$ 1285-1335/ton in its previous week.

However, Korean benzene prices fell this week and were assessed at US$ 1320/ton on August 20.

In Japan, prices showed similar trend as in Korea last week. Spot prices were seen in the range of US$ 1350-1365/ton CFR Japan as compared to US$ 1290-1340/ton in its previous week.

But as in Korea, Japanese benzene trends too fell in the current week and were quoted at US$ 1325/ton on August 20.

Last week, Indian prices showed similar trend as in Korea and Japan. Prices were spotted in the range of US$ 1355-1370/ton CFR India last week, vis-à-vis US$ 1295-1345 in its previous week.

On August 20, Indian benzene prices were assessed at US$ 1330/ton.

According to experts, benzene prices showed downward trend in the current week, due to lower upstream energy prices and drop in downstream product prices.
