Hyundai Cosmo Petrochemicals, the 50:50 joint venture founded in November 2009 by Hyundai Oilbank of Korea and Cosmo Oil of Japan, is expected to continue to keep its No.2 aromatic plant off-stream this month.

The plant was shut down on June 1, 2014, due to weak production margins and was likely to be restarted in end-August 2014.

“The plant could not be restarted in end-August due to weak production margins. The plant will continue to be off-stream at least for this month,” a company official told fibre2fashion.

“It is not decided as to when the plant will be restarted,” the official further informed.

The No.2 aromatics plant is located at Daesan in South Korea. It has an annual capacity to produce 800,000 tons of paraxylene (PX) and 120,000 tons of benzene.
