Reliance, India's largest player in the polyester value chain, has further increased the prices of raw materials for polyester staple fibre (PSF). It raised the prices of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and MELT for the coming week, but the prices of monoethylene glycol (MEG) were kept unchanged. Last week, the company had raised the prices of PTA and MELT but kept MEG prices unchanged.

The company increased PTA and MELT prices by around 7 per cent in the last one month. RIL is pricing very aggressively after hindrance in imported supply. According to trade sources, the implementation of the quality control order (QCO) on polyester staple fibre and upstream raw materials has put an extra compliance burden on foreign suppliers. They are not able to supply the material because their certification under BIS is pending due to a lengthy process.

According to market sources, RIL fixed prices as PTA at ₹88.00 per kg (increase of ₹1.40), MEG at ₹50.10 per kg (unchanged), and MELT at ₹93.29 per kg (increase of ₹0.95). The pricing of polyester raw materials will come into effect from Saturday.

For the current fortnight, the company increased the prices of PSF by ₹2 to ₹106 per kg.
