The Association of Synthetic Fibre Industry (ASFI) has filed a review petition challenging the previous order issued by a single judge bench of the same court. Sree Kaderi Ambal Mills, a Madurai-based yarn manufacturing company, had requested the court for a six-month exemption from the mandatory QCO on PSF imports from foreign suppliers. The court had initially granted a three-month exemption, which ASFI contested.
Following the opening arguments, the higher bench of the high court has suspended the exemption until October 31. During this time, the court will thoroughly examine the matter. The court has also summoned the ministries of textile, and chemical & fertilizers and Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) which played a role in this issue.
R K Vij, secretary-general of the Polyester Textile Industry Association (PTIA) and president of the Indian Textile Association (ITA), told Fibre2Fashion, "QCOs should not be further postponed, as they have already caused delays. These are quality standard norms designed to ensure the quality of finished goods." He added that the court has suspended the exemption and will provide further directions after hearing the matter.
