Shandong Province is rapidly becoming a massive industrial district and investment in textile industry is growing.
Focus shifted from cotton yarn and fabric production to polyester staple fibre during the later months of 2005.
By December 2005 Shandong was recognized as the third largest producer of polyester staple fibre.
Polyester production recorded 59 percent rise over 2004.
Polyester output in Shandong reached 475800 tons, making up for 6.5 percent of China's total polyester staple fibre production.
Zhejiang and Jiangsu were the largest polyester producing provinces in China, together producing 68.9 percent of the total polyester output in the country.
