Reliance Industries Ltd recycles used polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles offering end-to-end traceability throughout the entire supply chain from PET bottles to fibres—a completely transparent and socially compliant mechanism that has generated a huge demand from some of the major fashion houses, according to Gunjan Sharma, chief marketing officer, polyester business.

The company has also started a series of initiatives to create awareness about recycling of plastics in the industry and society. Some such initiatives are PET bottle collection drive in its Navi Mumbai office complex and cultural events; installing vending and crushing machines at strategic locations in Mumbai where people can deposit PET bottles; and producing shopping bags using recycled fabric made from used PET bottles, Sharma told Fibre2Fashion in an interview.
