Alexium International Group Limited (Alexium) announced that it is commencing and accelerating work with its affiliate Alexium Government Solutions (AGS) on durable flame retardant (FR) treatments for common military fabrics. The corporate objective is to expand Alexium’s technical product portfolio beyond the Ascalon treatment, focusing on nylon blends such as a standard-issue nylon/cotton fabrics.

Following the development of its Ascalon FR treatments for nylon application, Alexium is making significant progress in developing FR solutions for nylon blends as well. This funded project is accelerating technical spin-outs of Ascalon FR treatments, combining its novel, halogen-free FR chemistry with chemistries typically used for cellulosic fibers.

“The results to date are very encouraging. We are making steady progress on the technical side and are working with the military customer to meet their performance requirements.” stated Stefan Susta, AGS’s president and Alexium’s Chief Operating Officer.

AGS will complete this technical work as Phase I of a US Marine Corps SBIR project over the next 4 months. The contract value for Phase I is $80K, with an additional $70K Phase I option to be exercised at the discretion of the DoD. After the completion of Phase I, Alexium may be invited to participate in Phase II with additional funding of up to $1Mil.
