Cotton yarn prices up in north India on rising fibre rates

  • North India cotton yarn prices rose as spinning mills increased selling rates to pass on higher cotton costs. Demand remained mixed, with Ludhiana seeing some improvement while Delhi traders flagged sluggish offtake. Cotton comber prices also increased, while recycled yarns stayed stable. Cotton prices climbed further amid tight supply and continued buying by the Cotton Corporation of India.

Cotton yarn prices increased by &#****;* per kg in the Ludhiana market as spinners raised mill rates in line with higher cotton prices. Export markets as well as domestic demand supported cotton yarn trade. A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre*Fashion, “Local summer demand has improved over the last couple of days. Rising cotton prices in global markets have also boosted Indian cotton yarn. Mills are more confident about demand and are trying to command higher prices in the local market.”

In Ludhiana, ** count cotton combed yarn was sold at &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg (inclusive of GST); ** and ** count combed yarn were traded at &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg and &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg, respectively; and carded yarn of ** count was noted at &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg today, according to trade sources.
