North India cotton yarn faces cost pressure, local demand weak

Mills struggled to pass on cost increases amid weak garment activity. Panipat saw gains in recycled cotton yarn and comber prices due to rising cotton prices and seasonal demand. Cotton prices climbed further on CCI procurement.

Cotton yarn prices were steady in the Ludhiana market, after witnessing slight gains last week. A trader from Ludhiana told Fibre*Fashion, “The Ludhiana market is seeing average cotton yarn demand. Buying for summer garments remains very slow, and garment production is unlikely to improve this year.” However, spinning mills are realising better prices in global markets.

In Ludhiana, ** count cotton combed yarn was sold at &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg (inclusive of GST); ** and ** count combed yarn were traded at &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg and &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg, respectively; and carded yarn of ** count was noted at &#****;***-*** (~$*.**-*.**) per kg today, according to trade sources.
