US Upland cotton export sales improved in the week ended December 11, supported by stronger net bookings and higher shipments, although year-on-year comparisons continued to reflect cautious forward demand, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s weekly export sales data.

Net Upland sales for the current marketing year rose to 304,700 running bales (RB), well above the 194,900 RB recorded in the same week last year. Outstanding sales stood at 3.64 million RB, marginally higher week on week but significantly lower than 4.80 million RB a year earlier, highlighting limited forward coverage by global mills.

Shipments increased to 134,400 RB during the week, indicating improved execution of existing contracts. Accumulated exports climbed to 2.54 million RB, surpassing the 2.41 million RB reported in the corresponding week last year, reflecting steadier shipment momentum despite uneven buying interest.

Vietnam remained the largest buyer, booking 124,100 RB, followed by China with 90,400 RB. Other notable destinations included Malaysia at 21,800 RB, Indonesia at 19,000 RB, Pakistan at 17,000 RB, and Turkiye at 12,800 RB. Bangladesh added 9,400 RB, while India booked 2,300 RB. The buying pattern underscored selective replenishment rather than broad-based restocking across markets.

Forward sales for the next marketing year remained modest at 15,000 RB, compared with 6,900 RB in the same week last year, suggesting continued caution over future yarn demand and margin visibility.

Pima cotton activity showed limited improvement. Net Pima sales for the current marketing year totalled 8,900 RB, up from 500 RB a year earlier. Outstanding sales declined to 63,900 RB from 94,000 RB in the year-ago period. Accumulated Pima exports rose to 123,200 RB, although they remained below the 142,200 RB recorded in the corresponding week last year, reflecting shipment-led progress amid subdued premium cotton demand.
