Fully in line with the company's strategic vision for sustainability, 3B-the fibreglass company is launching a new and eco-responsible Milled Fibre powder grade developed from Advantex glass manufacturing by-products.

“The new grade, MF 01 ER (Eco-Responsible), which is commercially available worldwide, is the first product in a new generation of 3B Milled Fibres made of Advantex glass valorising material from the glass fibre manufacturing chain,” explains Eric Martin, Business Development Leader at 3B. “This illustrates our continuous and dedicated commitment to sustainability and to the reduction of our environmental footprint while developing additional, innovative and value-added reinforcement products for our customers.”

Designed to close the gap in terms of the cost-performance ratio, which exists between mineral fillers and standard glass reinforcements, the new Milled Fibre grade positively complements3B's robust portfolio of chopped strands.

3B's MF 01 ER Milled Fibre powder grade has very good dry flow characteristics and dispersion, provides attractive high modulus, excellent dimensional stability and part shrinkage control and can be used in a diverse range of polymers for a variety of end-use applications, mainly in the electrical and electronic, automotive and consumer goods markets.

Eric Martin adds: “The combined reinforcement and flammability performance proven in some complex thin-wall electrical and electronics (E&E) applications opens up fresh opportunities for this new product.”

Although designed primarily to reinforce both engineering thermoplastics and thermosets, the unique set of properties of the new MF 01 ER Milled Fibre powder grade made of Advantex glass makes it very interesting for a wide range of applications beyond the plastics industry, such as adhesives, paints, coatings and silicones.
