EMANA is a textile yarn that improves blood microcirculation, and it an industrial yarn for airbags

Rhodia Fibras, the Rhodia´s group global business unit, uses this edition of the International Textile Machinery Exhibition (ITMA) for the global launch of Emana, its latest innovation in the field of smart polyamide 6.6 fibers. Rhodia at ITMA 2011: Hall 5 - Stand H5-A-115.

Held in Barcelona, Spain, from September 22nd to 29th, 2011, the event brings together international manufacturers of textile machinery and equipment. This year, for the first time, global yarn and fiber manufacturers are also attending. Rhodia is a leading player in this sector with its polyamide 6.6 technology and products for textile and industrial applications.

Innovation for health and well-being – The result of research and development in the company's textile area over four years, Emana is a textile yarn that incorporates active principles in its molecules to absorb body heat and return it as far infrared rays, biostimulating the metabolism.

The scientifically proven benefits of apparel made from Emana include improved elasticity of the skin, reduced muscle fatigue, and a reduction in the cellulite signs. The product is recommended for every type of apparel (underwear, sportswear, fashion, and others) which promotes consumer health and well-being.

Patented internationally, the innovation, which was initially launched on the Brazilian market, has become the first textile yarn in Brazil to be registered by the country's health regulatory authority, ANVISA, as a Health Product, under number n° 80553439001. It has also been assessed internationally and been certified by OEKOTEX®, and so can be used in making any apparel items.

Products made from Emana also offer a versatile range of colors, do not lose their functionality with washing, and are easy to wash and keep, just like any conventional polyamide 6.6. As with all products made from Rhodia's microfibers, articles made from Emana are light and provide a singular sensation of comfort, thanks to the smoothness of polyamide 6.6.

At ITMA 2011 Rhodia will also introduce its product portfolio, with special attention on its polyamide 6.6 yarn for airbags use. The company developed its own technical yarn for producing this fabric used in this automobile safety component.

Sustainability – Development of these products illustrates Rhodia's capacity to innovate in the field of polyamide 6.6 yarns, within the sector's vision of sustainability.

Rhodia Fibras focuses on sustainability in its polyamide 6.6 operations, constantly adopting initiatives to enhance its productive processes and its research and development of new products and applications. For example, the company reuses 100% of the water used in its production processes, recycles all its industrial wastes, and constantly reduces its energy consumption.

Rhodia's initiatives in this field will be presented at ITMA 2011 by Gabriel Gorescu, the company's Research and Development manager, in a special technical presentation “Sustainability in the Production of Textile Yarns and Fibers.”

Investiments – Fully integrated throughout its industrial polyamide chain, from raw material to final applications in yarns and fibers, Rhodia Fibras has invested in production to meet its customer´s needs.

In September a new textile machine is starting operation that will increase production capacity in microfibers, supermicrofibers, and smart polyamide 6.6 textile yarns in its industrial complex in Santo André, Brazil. With this machine, in which US$ 10 million has been invested, the company will increase its total yarn and fiber capacity by 10%.

Rhodia is an international chemical company resolutely committed to sustainable development. Structured around 11 global business units within five business clusters, Rhodia is the partner of major players in the automotive, electronics, flavors and fragrances, health, personal and home care markets, consumer goods and industrial markets. The Group employs around 14,000 people worldwide and generated sales of €5.23 billion in 2010. Rhodia is listed on Euronext Paris.
