Specialty chemical company Evonik, is presenting its new Vestamid DX9360 product, a polyamide extrusion compound for tubing systems at the ongoing NPE2015: The international plastics expo, one of the world’s most important plastics trade shows and conferences bringing together every sector of the plastics industry, being held from March 23 to 27, 2015, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

With tubing made from Evonik’s new high-temperature resistant, Vestamid DX9360 compound can replace rubber hoses in encapsulated engine compartments, saving space and weight, Evonik said in a press release.

Jeff Smith, vice president and general manager, Evonik’s high performance polymers said, “Our customers asked us for a new high-temperature polyamide, distinguished by particularly high resistance to continuously high working temperatures and we delivered with Vestamid DX9360.”

Tubing systems formulated with Vestamid DX9360 extrusion compound are lighter than rubber hose assemblies and the compound can save space in the engine compartment, he added.

Smith said, “Vestamid EX9350 is an extrusion compound for brake booster lines that satisfies these requirements even under extreme conditions. Tubing made from the newer Vestamid extrusion compound, which can be processed on standard extrusion lines show even twice the durability of Vestamid EX9350 in tests at 150 degrees.”

Among the most important requirements from the automotive industry is lightweight construction. Every pound saved means less fuel consumption and fewer emissions. Thus, plastics are favoured materials for lightweight construction, but must be adapted to meet the increased temperature requirements in the engine compartment. (GK)
