EU's retail sales index dipped by 2.4% YoY in Nov 2022: Eurostat

In November 2022, the calendar adjusted retail sales index decreased by 2.8 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in the euro area and by 2.4 per cent YoY in the European Union (EU), as per Eurostat’s estimates. The seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade increased by 0.8 per cent month-on-month (MoM) in the euro area and by 0.9 per cent MoM in the EU.

In October 2022, retail trade volume decreased by 1.5 per cent in the euro area and by 1.4 per cent in the EU, according to a report by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

Among member states for which data are available, the highest monthly increases in the total retail trade volume were registered in Spain (+3.6 per cent), Poland (+2.6 per cent), and Sweden (+2.3 per cent). The largest decreases were observed in Luxembourg (-2.0 per cent), France and Croatia (both -1.0 per cent), and Slovenia (-0.5 per cent).

Among member states for which data are available, the largest yearly decreases in the total retail trade volume were registered in Denmark (-7.4 per cent), Belgium (-6.0 per cent), and Germany (-5.7 per cent). The highest increases were observed in Latvia (+10.7 per cent), Slovenia (+7.5 per cent), and Poland (+5.7 per cent).
