Italy's non-store retail sales shot 6.1% YoY in Jan 2023

In January 2023, Italy’s retail trade value continued to grow for the 23rd month in a row in the year-on-year (YoY) series, rising by 6.2 per cent, while volume sales fell by 2.4 per cent. Large-scale distribution was up 8.2 per cent YoY, small-scale distribution increased by 4.3 per cent YoY, and non-store retail sales were up 6.1 per cent YoY for the same period.

Italy’s estimates for the seasonally adjusted index of value sales increased by 1.7 per cent in the month-on-month (MoM) series and volume grew by 1.2 per cent in January 2023. In the three months to January 2023, the value of sales was up 1.5 per cent, whereas volume of sales dropped by 0.5 per cent when compared with the previous three-month period, the Italian National Institute of Statistics (Istat) said in a press release.

Online sales rose by 3.0 per cent in January 2023 when compared with January 2022. Looking at the value of sales for non-food products, the largest increases were reported for products including clothing at 9.4 per cent.
