The overall picture for January to October 2023 shows a different trend, with a YoY decrease of 2.6 per cent in retail sales, contrasting sharply with the 6.0 per cent growth recorded during the same period in 2022, according to Statistics Poland.
The most remarkable growth was seen in the sales of solid, liquid, and gaseous fuels, which leapt by 16.7 per cent, a stark reversal from the 20.5 per cent decrease seen in the previous year.
Online retail has also experienced significant growth. October 2023 witnessed a 13.4 per cent increase in online retail sales compared to September. This spike has raised the proportion of internet sales from 8.3 per cent in September to 9.0 per cent in October.
Among various sectors, the textiles, clothing, and footwear sector has shown a marked increase in online sales, rising from 17.8 per cent to 19.9 per cent in just one month. This shift indicates a growing consumer preference for online shopping, reshaping the retail landscape in Poland.
