Turkish retail flourishes with 28.4% YoY boost in sales in May 2023

Turkiye’s retail sales volume with constant prices (2015=100) increased by 28.4 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in May 2023. In the same month, non-food (except automotive fuel) sales increased by 36.9 per cent and automotive fuel sales increased by 10.9 per cent.

In May 2023, the nation witnessed a rise in retail sales volume with constant prices (2015=100), showing a 2.1 per cent increase from the previous month. Concurrently, there was a 2.0 per cent rise in non-food sales (excluding automotive fuel), while automotive fuel sales went up by 2.2 per cent, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) said in a press release.

In May 2023, retail turnover, measured at current prices (2015=100), saw a significant surge, increasing by 80.7 per cent from the same month of the previous year. At the same time, non-food sales, excluding automotive fuel, skyrocketed by 109.7 per cent. Meanwhile, automotive fuel sales modestly increased by 5.1 per cent.

There was a 4.6 per cent upswing in retail turnover at current prices (2015=100) in May 2023 compared to the preceding month. Concurrently, non-food sales (excluding automotive fuel) rose by 5.5 per cent, even though automotive fuel sales experienced a slight dip of 0.9 per cent.
