The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), representing some of the country’s largest retail chains, issued a statement emphasising the need for predictability and lower costs for consumers.
“Americans are counting on President Trump to help make life more affordable, and families want financial certainty to plan their budgets after years of rising prices. As Americans start thinking of backyard cookouts, do-it-yourself projects, and sprucing up kids’ summer wardrobes, they are nervous about the impact tariffs will have on their pocketbooks,” Michael Hanson, RILA’s senior executive vice president for public affairs, said in a press note.
RILA urged the administration to focus on expanding policies that have already demonstrated success, such as the continuation of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and strengthening trade frameworks like the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
“Retailers strongly urge the President to double down on the policies from his first term that are working and forgo policies that create uncertainty for American businesses and families,” Hanson added.
