US sales including retail rise to $686.6 bn in May 2023

This upward trend was also reflected in the total sales figures for the period from March to May 2023, which showed a rise of 1.7 per cent from the same period in the previous year. The change from March to April 2023 remains at the previously reported increase of 0.4 per cent, the US Department of Commerce said in a press release.

Retail trade sales similarly followed this pattern with a 0.3 per cent increase from April 2023 and a 0.7 per cent increase from last year. Non-store retailers, including online and mail-order businesses, saw the largest boost, with sales jumping 6.5 per cent from last year.
