Amazon India has launched 'Global Store' in order to allow its Indian customers to buy products of international brands sold on the US website of the e-commerce giant by paying in local currency. The move to sell over 4 million international products in India is likely to help the company compete aggressively with leading Indian e-retailer Flipkart.

Currently, only products available on Amazon US have been made available on the company's Indian marketplace. Consumers can expect access to more product categories and countries in the future.

“Enhancing shopping experience for customers is one of the key pillars for us. With Global Store, customers in India will now have direct access to thousands of international brands and a starting selection of over 4 million global products. With this launch, Amazon.in will become the single largest online destination for buying both local and global products in India,” Amit Agarwal, Amazon India VP and country head, told a news agency.

A dedicated page has been created under the Global Store to showcase the eligible products that will be shipped to India. Prices (displayed in local currency) include product price, import fees deposit and shipping fees. Customers can expect their products to be delivered in 2 to 12 days.

Consumers earlier had the option of ordering items from Amazon US, but they were required to pay in dollars.

India is the third nation after China and Mexico to get access to Amazon's Global Store. (KD)
