Indian e-commerce firm Flipkart recently announced introducing the country's first robot-based sorting technology, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), in Bengaluru. The company introduced over 100 AGVs at its sorting facility in Soukya that help sort packages by pin code, leading to an increase in process efficiency, Flipkart said in a statement.

The AGVs identify encoded information on each package, according to the statement.

The move would allow better throughput from an existing facility, removing the need for space expansion, and will enable the current manpower engaged in that task to be shifted to other value-added work, it added. (DS)
