Indian e-commerce firm Flipkart is planning to set up an integrated logistics park with multiple warehouses on the outskirts of Bengaluru and is in the process of acquiring 100 acres of land. The unit will be the logistics hub across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh states. The capital expenditure will be in hundreds of millions of dollars.

The unit will house 4.5 million square feet of warehousing space in the next few years and this will be the largest investment from Flipkart’s side for the next five to ten years, leading Indian financial dailies reported.

The largest e-commerce warehouse in India now is run by Amazon in Telangana, spanning 400,000 square feet.

By 2020, the unit will employ 5,000 people directly, apart from creating indirect job opportunities for around 15,000.

The unit will also have large sorting centres and a transportation hub. Flipkart will continue to expand into more regions as well with small fulfilment centres. (DS)
