Indian consumers top the list of searching UK brands using smartphones for the fourth quarter from October to December 2015, according to British Retail Consortium (BRC) and Google Online Retail Monitor (ORM).

An increase in 39 per cent in usage of smartphones by Indian consumers to search UK retailers was witnessed in the final quarter of last year, followed by Russia and Brazil with an increase of 37 per cent and 13 per cent respectively, the BRC-ORM report said. All three markets saw a contrasting decline in the use of online tablets to search for UK goods.

Apparel ranked second with a 41 per cent increase, after beauty products, amongst all the sectors experiencing an increase in the volume of overseas customers searching for UK retailers using mobile devices. The top trending terms used for searching products in the apparel category were dresses, Christmas jumpers, Halloween costumes, and wedding dresses.

BRC and Google ORM measures changes and trends in the growth of retail search terms over time. Every time someone goes online and Googles a retail product, that search is counted towards totals for the month and the quarter. (HO)
