1 min read
Portugal's retail market of textiles, apparel, shoes and leather products is picking up as indicated by its sales.
November 2005 sales index reached 107.5 points up from 105.8 during October showing a 3.7 percent rise over 2004.
Textile and apparel sales have recorded significant growth in last nine months.
Portugal's GDP grew only 0.3 percent in 2005, but is predicted to increase by 0.8 percent in 2006.
Government has slashed public spending and increased sales taxes in an attempt to cut budget deficit following the EU guidelines.
This may adversly affect the apparel and textile retail sales.
