The sales in the clothing retail sector in the Canadian market have shown a marginal increase of 3.9 percent in March 2013 as compared to the sales of March’12, according to the latest report ‘Retail trade, March 2013’, released by Statistics Canada.

The monthly sales for March 2013 in the clothing retail sector accounted for Ca$ 1.765 billion compared to Ca$ 1.699 billion during the corresponding month of last year.

Market analysts attribute the rise in apparel retail sales to drastic reduction in prices by Canadian retailers to compete with retailers across the border.

Although the clothing retail sales have hiked, the national report states that the overall retail sales recorded for March 2013 is nearly the same as February sales.

Statistics Canada collects, compiles, analyses, and publishes statistical information relating to the commercial, industrial, financial, social, economic and general activities and conditions of the people of Canada.
