Retail apparel sales up for sixth consecutive month

Bouyant Greek retail market has been showing allround positive growth for the last six consecutive months, as indicated by the General Secretariat of Statistics, release.
Index of retail turnover of clothing and footwear (2000=100) reached 123.0 mark in July.
It acknowledges a continuing pattern of rising offtake of apparel in euro terms.
July figures reveal rise in turnover at 3.6 percent year-on-year basis.
But, sales dropped 2.6 percent in volume terms, but the coming months will pose more challenges, it indicates.
Currently, the Greek government is under pressure to reduce public spending and lower the budget deficit under the EU diktak. Not adhering to it would invite significant cuts in EU fundings of the national budget in 2007.
