US retail imports to rise 4.4% in November: NRF

A report released by the National Retail Federation (NRF) informed that imports at US major retail container ports are projected to increase 4.4 per cent in November 2016, as against the same month last year. NRF also anticipates that imports would see a slightly larger rise in December too, since the holiday shopping season is officially under way.

The numbers come as NRF is forecasting $655.8 billion in holiday sales, a 3.6 per cent increase over last year.

“Most of the holiday merchandise is already here, but retailers are still restocking to be sure shoppers will have a broad and deep selection, as they hit the stores over the next several weeks,” NRF vice president for supply chain and customs policy Jonathan Gold said.

“Retailers are importing more during the holidays this year than last year and that can only mean one thing, they expect to sell more,” he observed. (AR)
