  • Non-food turnover grew 3.7 per cent, while online sales climbed 6 per cent.

Dutch retail turnover rose 3.8 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in September 2025, supported by a 1.4 per cent increase in sales volume, according to Statistics Netherlands (CBS). The non-food sector, including retail outside physical shops, recorded a 3.7 per cent rise in turnover, while online retail sales grew by 6 per cent YoY.

The figures for retail turnover have been adjusted for calendar days in September, because more is sold on certain days of the week than on other days. Without such an adjustment, retail turnover in September 2025 would have been over 5 per cent higher than the previous year, CBS said in a press release.

Sales volume (turnover adjusted for price changes) was up by 1.9 per cent in September 2024.

Home furnishings and clothes shops saw growth of 4.5 per cent and 4.3 per cent respectively in September. Meanwhile, sales of shops selling shoes and leather products contracted 3.7 per cent.

Online retailers (whose core activity is selling goods and services over the internet) recorded an increase in turnover of 7 per cent. Multi-channel retailers (retailers selling goods and services over the internet as a secondary activity) saw a 4.5 per cent increase in their online sales.
