EU annual inflation was 2.4 per cent in August, down from 2.8 per cent in July. A year earlier, the rate was 5.9 per cent.
The lowest annual rates were registered in Lithuania (0.8 per cent), Latvia (0.9 per cent), Ireland, Slovenia and Finland (all 1.1 per cent).
The highest annual rates were recorded in Romania (5.3 per cent), Belgium (4.3 per cent) and Poland (4.0 per cent).
Compared with July this year, annual inflation in August fell in 20 EU member states, remained stable in one and rose in six.
