In response to Fibre2Fashion's email to Kiabi asking how the company intends to support its suppliers during the current crisis, a Kiabi spokesperson said, "For years, we have had a constructive and lasting relationship with our partners. In this unprecedented crisis, we naturally ensure that these relationships are preserved by taking care of our suppliers."
Speaking about the measures taken by the company, particularly in Bangladesh, the spokesperson said, "We are engaged with our suppliers in a partnership approach. We honour their bills, of course. We have made the choice not to cancel current orders, despite the context, and will therefore carry stocks until the next S/S season. We also engage with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to ensure, among other things, that the employees of our partners are paid despite of the situation. And so it is, since March, since the current Covid-19 crisis."
This approach is led by Kiabi's teams in Asia. The teams are engaged to pilot the action plans with partners. "We welcome their involvement in this particular context," the spokesperson said.
For the next collections, the design work is already underway at Kiabi. However, the company shall manage production plans on a day-to-day basis, based on the evolution of the pandemic.
