Total US retail sales, excluding automobiles and gasoline, were up by 1.45 per cent month on month (MoM) seasonally adjusted and up by 5.89 per cent unadjusted year on year (YoY) in July, according to the Monitor. That compared with a MoM decrease of 0.33 per cent and a YoY increase of 3.19 per cent in June.
The calculation of core retail sales (excluding restaurants in addition to automobile dealers and gasoline stations) was up by 1.55 per cent per cent MoM and 5.93 per cent YoY in July. That compared with a decrease of 0.32 per cent MoM and an increase of 3.36 per cent YoY in June.
Total sales were up by 4.83 per cent YoY for the first seven months of the year and core sales were up by 5.07 per cent, an NRF release said.
Retail sales in general merchandise stores were up by 2.04 per cent MoM seasonally adjusted and up by 6.94 per cent YoY unadjusted in July.
Sales in clothing and accessories stores were up by 1.7 per cent MoM seasonally adjusted and up by 6.73 per cent YoY unadjusted in the month.
Sales in furniture and home furnishings stores were up by 0.98 per cent MoM seasonally adjusted and up by 1.53 per cent YoY unadjusted in July.
