UK retail sales volumes up 0.9% MoM, 1.7% YoY in Jun 2025

  • UK retail sales volumes rose by an estimated 0.9 per cent month on month (MoM) and 1.7 per cent YoY in June, following a fall of 2.8 per cent MoM in May, official statistics show.

  • The amount spent online, known as 'online spending values', rose by 2.3 per cent MoM and 4.5 per cent YoY in June 2025.
UK retail sales volumes rose by an estimated 0.9 per cent month on month (MoM) and 1.7 per cent year on year (YoY) in June 2025, following a fall of 2.8 per cent MoM in May, according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

Volumes in June were down by 1.6 per cent compared with their pre-COVID-19 level in February 2020.

Such volumes rose by 0.2 per cent quarter on quarter (QoQ) and 1.8 per cent YoY in the second quarter (Q2) this year, an ONS release said.

Non-store retailer's sales volumes rose by 1.7 per cent in June 2025, putting sales volumes at their highest level since February 2022.

Non-food stores sales volumes rose marginally by 0.2 per cent MoM in June. Such volumes of department stores and clothing retailers rose MoM.

The amount spent online, known as ‘online spending values’, rose by 2.3 per cent MoM and 4.5 per cent YoY in June 2025. These rose by 3.3 per cent QoQ in Q2 2025.

Total spend—the sum of in-store and online sales—rose by 1.1 per cent MoM. As a result, the proportion of sales made online rose from 27.4 per cent in May 2025 to 27.8 per cent in June 2025.
