UK' Sainsbury's joins ACT for fair wages in garment industry

Sainsbury’s – as one of the largest supermarket chains in the United Kingdom with also several brands such as Tu Clothing, Habitat, Argos – joins ACT (Action, Collaboration, Transformation).

“Sainsbury’s is showcasing leadership and alignment with industry frontrunners,” says Mira Neumaier, Executive Director of ACT. “We are thrilled to welcome Sainsbury’s who is joining forces with international brands and retailers and IndustriALL Global Union to work towards living wages and taking action to transform the global garments, textiles and footwear industry.”

As active participants in ACT, signatory brands and IndustriALL Global Union are united in their commitment to collaborate to uphold the human right to living wages through genuine supply chain industrial relations and collective bargaining. This includes strengthening freedom of association and supporting dispute resolution mechanisms on a country level. On a global scale and within the supply chain this commitment translates into ensuring responsible purchasing practices and actively engaging in the industry’s largest surveys as well as the sole accountability mechanism on purchasing practices.
