Nike is fueling a new era of running-inspired design with the launch of the Air Superfly, a sleek sportswear silhouette reintroduced 25 years after its inception as a low-profile racing trainer.

Rooted in Nike’s running history, the contemporary Air Superfly carries forward the original trainer’s construction, serving women athletes and sneaker fans with a refined early-aughts look modernized to advance today’s sport style.

“Now, 25 years later, it feels like the perfect time to reintroduce the Air Superfly to a new generation, letting this distinctive silhouette take on a new era,” says Ellen Lekas, expert, Women’s Footwear Product Management. “Racing trainers like this one are low to the ground, more minimalist, lightweight and really sleek — and we brought back this model specifically because it offers an authentic Nike perspective that is progressive, accessible and wearable, striking a perfect balance that’s so right for women today.”

Debuted by Nike athlete Sha’Carri Richardson in November, unveiled during last month’s SNKRS Showcase, and worn by global trendsetters, the restyled Air Superfly promises a streamlined, low-profile design that hugs the foot for all-day comfort.

A unique reverse seam construction provides a smoother fit and removes the need for a sock liner traditional to sportswear silhouettes, resulting in a deconstructed, minimal feel designed for everyday movement. Perforated medial and lateral quarter panels stay true to the initial Superfly design, promoting breathability and lightweight performance, and distinctive green dots on the original outsole mimic 2000s-era track spike placement.

A hidden Nike Air unit and Cushlon foam midsole deliver comfort that’s central to Nike’s running-inspired sportswear silhouettes, and a leather and synthetic suede upper offers a premium look and feel accentuated by the metallic silver launch colorway shared with the Air Max Muse, another new Nike Air style for women.

“The most exciting part of bringing the Air Superfly back to life was landing on the colors and materials that the shoe is going to take on,” says Thomasin Hummerstone, director, Footwear Product Creation, Women’s Sportswear. “This shoe has an amazing chameleon-like quality that, depending on how you color and materialize it, can take on so many different personalities. That begins with the metallic silver launch colorway, which is a modern evolution of the silver anthracite look from the original design.”

The Nike Air Superfly will be available January 28 at select Nike retail partners and February 7 globally on SNKRS.
