Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.16 per cent month on month (MoM) and 3.24 per cent year on year (YoY) in May this year, the country’s National Statistics Office recently said.

The May CPI was up by 1.53 per cent compared to the December 2024 figure.

In the first five months this year, the index increased by 3.21 per cent YoY, while core inflation went up by 3.1 per cent.

Core inflation in May rose by 0.33 per cent MoM and 3.33 per cent YoY in the country.

Transport costs dropped by 3.97 per cent YoY during the five months, with fuel prices down by 13.39 per cent YoY.

Though the US dollar index fell by 0.82 per cent globally, rising demand for import-export payments in Vietnam pushed the May US dollar index up by 0.68 per cent MoM, 2.69 per cent YoY and 2.59 per cent compared to December 2024. On an average, the US dollar index increased by 3.35 per cent in the first five months in the country.
