In response to Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s announcement that all retail will be able to open when national restrictions end on December 2, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) said the decision will help preserve jobs and the economy and help keep Christmas a festive occasion for everyone as the bulk of Christmas shopping tends to be done in store.
“Retailers will be relieved by the Government’s confirmation that all shops can reopen once the current restrictions are lifted. Meanwhile, taking a Downing Street press conference from self-isolation, Johnson cautioned against 'over-optimism', saying many areas will go into tougher tiers after December 2 than they were in before the blanket lockdown.
He cautioned that the months ahead “will be hard, they will be cold, they include January and February when the NHS is under its greatest pressure”.
