China's retail sales up 4% YoY in Jan-Feb; Online sales up 7.3% YoY

China's retail sales of consumer goods rose by 4 per cent year on year (YoY) in the first two months this year to reach 8.37 trillion yuan ($1.17 trillion), according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The growth rate is 0.5 percentage points higher than that in 2024.

Excluding automobiles, the figure was 7.68 trillion yuan—a YoY growth of 4.8 per cent.

Retail sales in the country's urban regions rose by 3.8 per cent YoY in the two months, while that in rural areas, it expanded by 4.6 per cent, a state-controlled media outlet reported.

Online retail sales rose by 7.3 per cent YoY to around 2.28 trillion yuan in the period. In particular, online retail sales of physical goods rose by 5 per cent YoY to 1.86 trillion yuan, accounting for 22.3 per cent of the total retail sales of consumer goods.
