Findings from the National Retail Federation (NRF), based in Washington DC and published through its Retail Security Surveys ****-****, along with insights from the Loss Prevention Research Council (LPRC), founded in **** to advance evidence-based loss prevention through real world research and collaboration, show that shoplifting and violence remained elevated in **** compared with ****.

About ** per cent of retailers reported further increases in theft incidents in ****, while ** per cent said levels of aggression during theft incidents, including verbal abuse, threats and physical confrontations, were the same or higher than before, according to the Retail Security Surveys ****-****. Cargo theft rose ** per cent in the second quarter, and total theft-related losses are projected to reach $**.* billion. Since ****, ORC incidents have increased by ** per cent, with cargo theft up ** per cent year on year (YoY) and average losses exceeding $***,*** per incident.
