US apparel CPI climbs 0.5% MoM in August: BLS

US apparel CPI climbs 0.5% MoM in August: BLS

  • The US consumer price index for all urban consumers (CPI-U) increased by 0.4 per cent month on month (MoM) on a seasonally-adjusted basis in August after rising by 0.2 per cent MoM in July, official statistics show.
  • The index for energy rose by 0.7 per cent MoM after falling 1.1 per cent MoM in July.
  • The index for apparel increased by 0.5 per cent MoM in August.
The US consumer price index for all urban consumers (CPI-U) increased by 0.4 per cent month on month (MoM) on a seasonally-adjusted basis in August this year after rising by 0.2 per cent MoM in July, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Without seasonal adjustment, the all items index increased by 2.9 per cent year on year (YoY) in the month after rising by 2.7 per cent YoY in July.

The index for energy rose by 0.7 per cent MoM in August after falling 1.1 per cent MoM in July. It increased by 0.2 per cent YoY in the month, a BLS release said.

The index for all items less food and energy rose by 0.3 per cent MoM, as it did in July. It rose by 3.1 per cent YoY in the month.

The index for apparel increased by 0.5 per cent MoM in August.
