The consumer price index (CPI) in Vietnam last year rose to 3.63 per cent year on year (YoY), meeting the target set by the National Assembly, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The index went up by 2.87 per cent YoY in the fourth quarter (Q4) last year, and by 2.94 per cent YoY in December, GSO chief Nguyen Thi Huong told a recent press conference.

She attributed the rise to the hike in prices of food and services, the fallout of natural disasters and growing demand during holidays and celebrations, domestic media outlets reported.

The average US dollar price in the free market was around 25,488 VND, representing a rise of 4.91 per cent YoY.
