China's consumer prices dip 0.7% YoY, PPI down 2.2% in February

China's consumer prices dip 0.7% YoY, PPI down 2.2% in February

China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, was down by 0.7 per cent year on year (YoY) and by 0.2 per cent month on month (MoM) in February this year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The prices in urban and rural areas both decreased by 0.7 per cent YoY.

Non-food prices edged down by 0.1 per cent YoY and consumer goods prices decreased by 0.9 per cent YoY in the month.

From January to February, the national consumer price decreased by 0.1 per cent YoY on an average.

The country’s producer price index (PPI), which measures costs for goods at the factory gate, meanwhile, fell by 2.2 per cent YoY and 0.1 per cent MoM in the month.

The decline was 0.1 percentage point less than the previous month, NBS data showed. In February, prices for means of production decreased by 2.5 per cent YoY.

From January to February, PPI decreased by 2.2 per cent YoY on an average, a state-controlled media outlet reported.

In February, the purchasing price of industrial products dropped by 2.3 per cent YoY.
