Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) increased by 3.48 per cent year on year (YoY) in the third quarter (Q3) this year, primarily due to rising prices of food in localities directly affected by Typhoon Yagi, and housing and education services, the general statistics office (GSO) said.

The CPI increased by 0.29 per cent YoY in September alone. Nine out of the 11 main groups of goods and services witnessed a rise in prices in the month.

Transport costs saw a drop of 2.77 per cent YoY in the month, a news agency reported.

Core inflation in September soared by 0.27 per cent month on month and 2.54 per cent YoY.

On an average, the January-September CPI rose by 3.88 per cent year-on-year, while core inflation increased by 2.69 per cent.
