The drop was primarily driven by a drop in food inflation. However, non-food inflation showed an upward trend, increasing to 9.38 per cent in the month over 9.32 per cent in the preceding month.
In rural areas, the point-to-point inflation rate was 9.51 per cent in the month, while it was 10.18 per cent in January. The non-food inflation rate in rural areas, however, increased to 9.85 per cent in February from 9.77 per cent in January, domestic media outlets reported.
On the other hand, the point-to-point inflation rate in urban areas in February was 9.34 per cent compared to 9.89 per cent in January. The non-food inflation rate in the month was 9.27 per cent, while it was 9.25 per cent in January.
The wage rate index in February this year was 8.12 per cent, while it was 8.16 per cent in January.
