France’s consumer price index (CPI) is expected to rise by 0.8 per cent year on year (YoY) in March this year, as it was in February, according to provisional estimates by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE).

The acceleration in service prices, particularly insurance, and in food prices, especially fresh products, should be offset by the falls in the prices of energy and, to a lesser extent, in manufactured products.

Consumer prices are projected to increase by 0.2 per cent month on month (MoM) in March, after being stable MoM in February. This slight MoM rise in prices should be mainly due to that of manufactured products, particularly clothing and footwear. The prices of services should slow down. Energy prices should fall MoM again.

The country’s harmonised index of consumer prices is expected to rise by 0.9 per cent YoY in March, as it was in February. It is expected to rise by 0.2 per cent MoM, after a 0.1-per cent rise in the previous month, an INSEE release said.
