Index of value sales in Italy falls by 0.4% MoM in Aug, volume by 1.1%

Estimates for seasonally-adjusted index of value sales in Italy fell by 0.4 per cent in August this year month on month (MoM); volume fell by 1.1 per cent. In the three months to August, the value of sales grew by 1.1 per cent, whereas sales volume dropped by 0.7 per cent compared with the previous three-month period, according to government data released recently.

While the value of retail trade continued to grow year over year (YoY) for the 18th month in a row in August this year, gaining 4.3 per cent, volume sales contracted by 2.1 per cent YoY.

In August, large-scale distribution was up by 6.2 per cent YoY, small-scale distribution increased by 2.2 per cent YoY and non-store retail sales rose by 3.9 per cent YoY, the country’s statistical agency said in a release.

Online sales were up by 3.7 per cent YoY in August.
